The 8-month-old pit bull mix has spent most of his life in a NY-based municipal shelter. The special needs puppy is deaf and partially blind, but he doesn’t let that stop him from enjoying life.
Shelter life has been tough on him, but it just got even more difficult…
The rescue shared with us, “When the shelter sent the plea to us, he was in critical condition. He was gasping for air, suffocating and blood was pouring from his nose. We didn’t hesitate and rushed him to an emergency hospital.”
Pecan was placed in an oxygen chamber as the medical team conducted further tests. The doctor gave the sweet pup a 50/50 chance of survival.
“X-rays were positive for pneumonia and showed the narrowing of his airways. It is most likely congenital, a
condition dampening his ability to recover. He needs a bit more time and effort. Pecan had to spend quite
some time in an oxygen chamber to help him breathe,” said the rescue.
Due to his lack of hearing and limited vision, Pecan was terrified of his unfamiliar surroundings. He was given some light sedatives to help him relax.
The fund provides grants to animal shelters and rescues to provide emergency medical care to animals and save lives. Thanks to your support, we are able to help animals across the country get the second chance they deserve.
Pecan’s life has had a rough start, but this illness is almost behind him. He will need several more weeks of medical care before he can find a loving family. “Pecan is an absolute fighter. He is full of puppy love and kisses. Once he’s recovered, we will find him a home. After all he has been through, this boy deserves peace,” state his caretakers.
